Open Gates Business Development Corporation, more commonly known as Open Gates Group, is an entrepreneurial Iowa company consisting of 8 individual entities. With entrepreneurship at our core, Open Gates Group team members, directors and owner, Bill Evans, are all constantly looking for new business opportunities and better ways to complete tasks. We encourage our employees to embrace the spirit of entrepreneurship Evans created, and this spirit ringing loudly within the walls of our 3 rural Iowa facilities.
Our Unique Business Model
The Open Gates Group business model is unique. Many of our entities work together to get organic, minimally-processed dairy products to market. Businesses ranging from production facilities, trucking companies, a warehouse and a retail shop, we’ve got the distribution chain covered! As needs arise within our family of companies, Evans, and a like-minded director team, evaluate each need. We decide if a new company could fill the void rather than hiring another company to do the work. A great example of this was the creation of Awesome Logistics. An employee had an idea for a trucking brokerage company and presented it to our CEO. After much conversation, the team decided this made sense! Awesome Logistics is now a fully-operating trucking brokerage that coordinates 50-70 loads/week covering 12 states.
All employees are challenged to think about how we can grow our family. If they have an idea for a new company, they’re encouraged to bring that idea to the table! Open Gates Group employees continuously look for better, more efficient ways of completing tasks while keeping an eye on the bottom line to ensure profitability.

We support our mission by looking at future opportunities, while focusing on the success of our existing companies. By continuing to create Midwest-based companies, we improve the economy of rural communities and support US manufacturing. By 2020, Open Gates Group anticipates adding 2-4 companies. No additional companies have been identified, but we always keep our eyes open!
