2nd/3rd Shift Production Supervisor - Farmers Creamery

Open Gates Group is a family of companies located near Kalona, IA. We care about our employees and take pride in our community. To help our community's farmers, we built a creamery and then 10 other food industry related businesses. Today, we help source, produce, sell & transport Midwestern products to 3,500+ stores nationwide. Our organic dairy products are minimally processed and come straight from Midwest family farms surrounding our creameries. We are currently hiring for a Production Supervisor to support our 2nd/3rd shift Production Teams at Farmers Creamery.


Our Production Supervisor is responsible for leadership, guidance, and direction for the production floor. Primary
responsibilities include coaching, mentoring, and facilitating production objectives while developing and training staff. Our Production Supervisor understands the entire production process and the complex relationships that exist throughout the process flow. This individual is responsible for system efficiencies, direction of employee activities, material inventory, and compliance to established product specifications, SOP’s, and plant policies. Typical shift hours are Sunday-Thursday, 6pm-2am.

What you will get to do...
  • Teach, coach and provide leadership to team members, ensuring that production goals are met.
  • Provide training to assist employees in learning their responsibilities.
  • Develop staffing schedules to ensure necessary work coverage.
  • Able to measure and track production goals, focusing on maximizing efficiency and minimizing costs.
  • Monitor equipment performance, ensuring normal conditions and standards of cleanliness are met.
  • Develop resolutions to production problems and seek appropriate help when needed.
  • Maintain team quality standards per specifications defined by State and/or Federal regulatory agencies.
  • Assist in creating and updating production floor SOP’s.
  • Assist in managing material inventory needs.
  • Assist in maintaining proper staffing levels, employee performance evaluations, discipline, and employee
    recognition initiatives.
  • Assist in creating an environment that encourages employee involvement, fostering innovative ideas on process
    improvement.
  • Assist in maintaining the Safe Quality Food (SQF) program at the plant.
What you will need...
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Proven leadership and coaching experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Handle challenging or conflict situations with tact and professionalism.
  • Flexible and able to execute plans, strategies and achieve desired results.
  • Strong prioritization, organization, and time management skills.
  • Perform physical tasks for extended periods of time including: standing, walking, climbing, bending, pulling and
    twisting over surfaces.
  • Work the scheduled shift, including overtime outside of your regular scheduled hours as required (more than 40
    hours per week).
  • Adhere to all safety standards and wear all necessary personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, safety glasses, hair/beard net and gloves when required.
  • Willing and able to adhere to all grooming requirements necessary for a food manufacturing environment.
  • Work with allergens that might be present in a food manufacturing environment.
